Dahal, Bhattarai of being 'red renegade': Baidya faction

KIRAN PUN
KATHMANDU, April 23: The Maoist radical faction has accused party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Vice-chairman Baburam Bhattarai of being “red renegades” and betraying the people and the revolution.

The radical faction led by Senior Vice-chairman Mohan Baidya leveled such allegations against Dahal and Bhattarai during its central committee meeting held on Saturday, and said the latest moves by the establishment faction is a great betrayal not only to the Nepali but also the world communist movement.

"We just wrote in our official document that Dahal and Bhattarai are seen moving toward the rightist trend. But we now realize that they have always been rightists," a central committee member quoted Baidya as saying.
According to him, Baidya also said that the faction should officially sever ties with Dahal and Bhattarai.

The Dahal faction at a central committee meeting held at Summit Hotel had labeled the Baidya faction as dogmatists, mechanical and rightists.

The meeting of the Baidya faction also dubbed Dahal and Bhattarai of being renegades of the communist movement, and accused them of betraying thousands of party cadres who sacrificed their happiness and dreams for the sake of the revolution.

In their view, Dahal and Bhattarai not only deviated from the communist movement but also dumped the Comprehensive Peace Accord signed with the government in 2005.

"We have been victimized for being innocent," a participant quoted Baidya as saying.

Party General Secretary Ram Bahadur Thapa said Dahal and Bhattarai converted themselves into ´red renegades´ saying they betrayed the dreams of martyrs, injured, and physically disabled cadres.

The Baidya faction also accused Dahal and Bhattarai of making preparations to suppress and attack the people.

"We should move ahead in coordination with our political front -- United National People´s Movement (of which 12 ethnic and communist parties are members) -- mobilizing teams in cities and villages," a participate quoted Thapa as saying.

Standing committee member Netra Bikram Chand said the people should be ready to counterattack Dahal and Bhattarai who are acting as dictators.

"There could be massacres. So we should be prepared to counter them," a participant quoted Chand as saying.

According to leaders, another standing committee member Dev Gurung stated that the possibility of including the people´s agenda in the new constitution is almost nil.

"Dahal surrendered himself and the party to the regressive elements," another CC member quoted Gurung as saying.

The meeting also decided to prepare for a ´revolt´ and hold discussions with the patriots and the intellectuals for the purpose.

Meanwhile, UCPN (Maoist) Secretary and Coordinator of United People´s Movement Front CP Gajurel on Sunday labeled party chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai as non-communists.

Speaking at a function organized by the United People´s Movement Front in Gaighat, Gajurel said, "Party Chairman Dahal and Prime Minister Bhattarai have betrayed our revolution. They are no more communists." He also called Dahal a "renegade" and the Bhattarai-led government the most corrupt in the history of Nepali politics.

Gajurel said Dahal´s decision to mobilize army in the cantonments was against the party´s decision and the interim constitution. He also accused Dahal of embezzling billions of rupees in the name of PLA. "The government has been punishing the corrupt. But Dahal continues to enjoy immunity. Why?" he questioned.
