Talks with CPN-Maoist getting nowhere

THIRA LAL BHUSAL/KIRAN PUN
KATHMANDU, Aug 10: Some key leaders from the major political parties have intensified inter-party negotiations in the last couple of days in an effort to bring the agitating CPN-Maoist on board the election process, but they seemed to be getting nowhere.

CPN-UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal and some other leaders from that party held repeated rounds of talks with CPN-Maoist Chairman Mohan Baidya in the last few days but UML leaders closely involved in the negotiations are not very optimistic about the Baidya-led Maoist party joining the election process.

Baidya Maoists give nod to talks but result doubtful

KIRAN PUN
KATHMANDU, Aug 2: After a third consecutive invitation from the government for talks, the CPN-Maoist has finally decided to sit for talks. The party is now scheduled to hold discussions with constituent parties of the alliance headed by it and then announce exact dates for talks.

The CPN-Maoist readiness for talks has brought about optimism about ending the months-long deadlock. But there are apprehensions whether talks between the government and the alliance led by the CPN-Maoist would really yield any tangible result as neither side has demonstrated enough seriousness.

Rift deepens in Baidya-led alliance over ex-king

KIRAN PUN
Grouping may not continue if CPN-Maoist doesn´t stop viewing former king as nationalist force

KATHMANDU, Aug 1: As dispute has further deepened among member parties of the CPN-Maoist led 33-party alliance with regard to their way of viewing former king Gyanendra, the continuity of the inter-party grouping has come into question.

Leaders from various political parties have sharp differences over how to regard the former king and royalist groups. While CPN-Maoist Chairman Mohan Baidya and some other key leaders said that their party may forge an alliance with the former king and other royalist groups when it comes to fighting for national interests, other parties have vehemently objected to the idea.
