KATHMADU, October 1: A lot of influential leaders of the UCPN (Maoist) as well as their kin are going to contest the Constituent Assembly election slated for November 19.

According to the list of 79 candidates under the first-past-the-post electoral system jointly finalized by the party´s candidate selection committee and high command so far, most of the top ranking leaders and their relatives are on the fray.

Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal is going to contest the election from Kathmandu -10 and Siraha -5 while son Prakash Dahal´s girlfriend Bina Magar has been selected from Kanchanpur-1.
His daughter Renu is believed to be selected from Kathmandu-1 and his brother Narayan Dahal will compete from a constituency in Chitwan, according to party sources privy of the development.

Senior leader Baburam Bhattarai will be fielded from Gorkha-1 and Rupendehi-4, and his spouse Hisila Yami is believed to compete from Kathmandu-7, the sources added.
The Bhattarai couple had been elected in the last election under FPTP system from Gorkha-2 and Kathmandu-7, respectively.
Barsha Man Pun is believed to compete from a constituency each of Jhapa and Morang, and his wife Onsari Gharti Magar will fight it out from Rolpa-2.

Shakti Basnet and his spouse Satya Pahadi have been selected from Jajarkot-1 and Dolpa respectively.
Former husband and wife Tekendra Bhatta and Renu Chand are in the fray from Kanchanpur-3 and Baitadi-2, respectively. They were elected from the same constituencies in the last CA election.

Post Bahadur Bogati is contesting from Nuwakot-3 and his son-in-law Nirmal Acharya is being fielded from Dang-1.
Similarly, Janardan Sharma has been nominated from Rukum-2 and his cousin Bhim Prasad Sharma from Salyan-2. Janardan´s sibling Narayani Sharma is also set to be nominated from Dang -2, party sources said.

"A fewer number of leaders and their relatives will be fielded in the election this time around compared to the last one," Bishwabhakta Dulal, a party leader, told Republica.

However, the list being prepared by the party suggests otherwise.

In the last CA, the candidates included only half a dozen couples.

Of the 79 candidates finalized so far, most are new faces. Only 27 former CA members, including 21 elected under the FPTP system have been included in the list till date.

The party has also decided to give second chance to some candidates who lost in the last CA election. They include Hit Bahadur Tamang, who had lost the election from Nuwakot-2; Khagaraj Bhatta, who could not make it through the only constituency in Dadeldhura; and Tanka Angbuhang, who was defeated from Taplejung-2 in the last polls.

They are being fielded from the same constituencies as previous.

Former lawmaker from Rastriya Janmorcha Navaraj Subedi has been nominated from Pyuthan-1 and former Baglung District Development Committee president from Rastriya Janmorcha Lil Bahadur Thapa is going to compete from Baglung -2.

Krishna Dhwaj Khadka, who had rejoined the party after quitting the CPN-Maoist, has been selected from Pyuthan-2.
