YCL leaders warns of quitting party

 KATHMANDU, Aug 4: The Young Communist League (YCL) leaders have warned they will quit UCPN (Maoist), expressing disagreement over the expansion of 251-member general convention organizing committee. They said the expansion was against the party policy and procedure.

Submitting their 4-point memorandum to party chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, they urged to him annul the nomination of the former PLA commanders who are being investigated for financial irregularities in the cantonments.

"Today [Friday] we sent memorandum to the party chairman Dahal through our chairman Ganesh Man Pun. Tomorrow [Saturday] we will resign en masse," Shyam Kumar Budha Magar, YCL central secretariat member told Republica. According to Magar, they will announce series of protests by mobilizing youths across the country to put pressure on the party leadership.

"The party has neither system nor procedure. Our disagreement is against the party´s wrong system. How can we tolerate when party nominated people whom we recruited?" said Magar.

"The party should rethink and step back from the decision on how it nominated commanders who are under investigation," the statement said. Yam Bahadur Adhikari, Suk Bahadur Roka Magar and Mahendra Bahadur Shahi were nominated as member of organizing committee. They had resigned from the party and as commander to facilitate investigations.

Similarly, YCL leaders also expressed the view that the parties ignored Marxism, Leninism, Maoism theories that calls for one-third participation of youth while expanding the organizing committee.

"The leaders have made Maoist as a front not party. The party should be party of proletariat," the memorandum states.

YCL leaders Gunendra Gharti Magar, Tamsaling coordinator, Tara Tharu, Tharuwan coordinator, Agni, Bheri-Karnali coordinator, YCL central secretariat member and former law maker Prem Bahadur Bista, Pushpa Gharti Magar, Deelip and Shailendra have the signed in the memorandum. Similarly, 13 other YCL leaders, including Chandra Bahadur Thapa aka Sagar and Shyam Kumar Budha Magar, Hom Bahadur Pun and Lila Sharma are from the YCL central headquarters have also signed.

Friday Dahal was very busy receiving memorandums and hearing complaints of the party leaders and delegations. According to Lazimpat sources, the delegation teams met Dahal expressing disagreement over expansion of the organizing committee and warned of quitting the party if Dahal did not correct the move.
